Baptism & Confirmation
What Is Baptism and Who Can Be Baptised?
Baptism is the sacrament of welcome into the family of God where a person receives the gift of the Holy Spirit. You can be baptised at any age. We welcome children to baptism and for adults we offer preparation and formation for baptism through an introductory course called The Journey.
What If I’m From Another Christian Denomination?
We believe in the biblical principle of one baptism and we acknowledge baptisms from other Christian denominations. You do not have to be baptised again as a member of the Anglican Church.
What Is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the sacrement by which an already baptised adult confirms their decision to become part of the family of God and follow Jesus Christ.
What Is Reaffirmation
Reaffirmation is an opportunity for an adult to reaffirm their confirmation vows and recommit to a life in the family of God and following Jesus.
How Do I Arrange a Baptism, Confirmation, or Reaffirmation?
Your should first contact the church office to arrange a meeting with the Priest.
For children’s baptisms the priest meets with the family in the month preceding the baptism and there is a short practice session one week before the baptism itself. Children’s baptisms are held at St Mary’s Church every 4th sunday of the month.
Ideally the parents will nominate actively practicing Christian Godparents for the child, who will also take an active role in the baptism ceremony.
Adult candidates prepare for baptism from November onwards by attending The Journey. Adult baptisms take place during the Easter celebrations on Palm Sunday. Candidates are baptised in the Noosa river. Contact the church office to ask about ‘The Journey’ and adult baptisms.
There is no cost for a baptism, confirmation or reaffirmation but donations to the church are welcome.
